004: What is an EKey and what does it do?
EKeys are no longer used at Mines.
The EKey was a unique code that allowed authorized Mines computer users to create computer accounts and change their passwords. It was phased out in March 2015 in favor of a new identity-management (IDM) system that performs the same tasks as the EKey, and more. The new system is found at https://identity.mines.edu.
If you have an EKey, treasure it as an historical artifact of computing at Mines. But it won't do anything for you. It is fully obsolete. Prior to June 2003, the CCIT EKey was called the Computing Center PIN, the AC&N PIN, or the "Green Card."
